    Driveway Demolition, Santa Clara Job

In January 2023 we demolished an existing concrete driveway on our Santa Clara job to make way for new concrete.

Good demolition sets up a good pour. We saw-cut clean edges where the new work meets the old, break out and haul off all debris, and check the subgrade underneath. Many driveway failures start with base problems that stay hidden until the old slab comes out.

    QuikTrip: Overnight Demo, Next-Morning Pour-Back

Convenience stores never close, so concrete work has to fit into a single night. In May 2022 we completed four QuikTrip remove-and-replace jobs on back-to-back nights, then returned in November for demolition at North 1604/37 and Foster/I-10.

    How an overnight cycle works

    • 9 PM: barricade, saw-cut and break out the old concrete
    • Overnight: haul off spoils, prep base, tie steel
    • Morning: pour back and finish (the fourth job poured at 10 AM)
    • Protect and reopen as soon as the concrete allows

Our first QT job was demolished the night of May 8 and poured May 9. The third, at Marbach and 1604, was demolished overnight on May 15. The fourth was demolished at 9 PM on May 16, with steel tied and pour-back at 10 AM on May 17.

This kind of schedule takes our own equipment, an experienced crew and tight coordination with the ready-mix supplier. Talk to us about phasing your site.

Helotes: Fixing a Flooding Porch with Drainage and Wood-Grain Stamped Concrete

A Helotes business called us about a flooding problem. Rainwater was pooling on their covered porch, and the wood decking was rotting from the moisture.

    The fix

    • Remove the rotted wood decking
    • Demolish a 4 ft × 25 ft strip of concrete
    • Form and pour a 6-inch by 27-inch wide drainage channel
    • Pour new concrete with a wood-grain stamp

We usually don’t stamp concrete in Texas summers because the heat makes it hard to finish the stamping in time. This porch was covered, so we could get the wood-grain texture right. We planned to come back after 30 days for custom staining and antiquing in 3 to 5 colors.

Our wood decking was getting rotten from the bad drainage setup. 123 came in and removed the old wood, installed a drainage system and even stamped the concrete… No more mud on the porch to my office. — R. Ruiz, Helotes TX
